Why GoMind for your migration?

GoMind is a cross-platform mind mapping app that treats your maps as real files on your device — not content locked in a cloud service. It natively opens .gomind files, imports the formats ZhiMap can export, and gives you PNG, PDF, and SVG export for sharing finished work.

Because GoMind is local-first, there is no subscription, no server-side storage, and no risk of a platform shutting down and taking your maps with it. The file on your disk is the source of truth.

What formats can GoMind import?

GoMind already supports importing these formats, so whatever ZhiMap gives you, there is a path in:

FreeMind (.mm) Best for notes & links
Markdown (.md) Great for text outlines
XMind (.xmind) Direct XMind import
OPML (.opml) Outliner-friendly
YAML / TXT Plain-text fallback

How to migrate from ZhiMap to GoMind

Step 1: Export your maps from ZhiMap

Log in to ZhiMap and open the map you want to keep. Use ZhiMap's built-in export option and choose FreeMind (.mm) if your map has notes or links, or Markdown (.md) for a simpler text outline. If ZhiMap gives you a batch export option (including the community ZhiMap Exporter browser extension), use it to download all maps at once.

Step 2: Install and open GoMind

Download GoMind from the Microsoft Store, the Mac App Store, or the direct Linux/Windows archive. Launch the app and you are ready to import.

Step 3: Import your file

In GoMind, choose File → Import (or use the import shortcut in the command palette) and select the .mm, .md, .xmind, or .opml file you exported from ZhiMap. GoMind parses the hierarchy, notes, and links, and opens the map on your canvas.

Step 4: Save as a native .gomind file

Once the map looks right, save it as a native .gomind file. From now on you have a local, versionable, portable source file that no cloud service can take away.

Frequently asked questions

My ZhiMap map has notes and hyperlinks. Which format should I choose?

Choose FreeMind (.mm). It preserves note content and link metadata more completely than plain Markdown, and GoMind's FreeMind importer keeps those details.

Can I still edit my maps after importing?

Yes. GoMind is a full mind mapping editor — add branches, reorganize nodes, apply themes, change layouts, and export the finished map to PNG, PDF, or SVG.

Do I need an account or subscription?

No. GoMind is a desktop app with local file storage. There is no account requirement and no subscription for core editing.

I have hundreds of maps. Is migration practical?

Yes. Export the batch from ZhiMap, then import each file into GoMind and save it as .gomind. Because GoMind is file-based, you can keep a folder of native maps and organize them however you like.
